Jay Ahr | resort 2014

One of the best times of the year is undoubtedly when the resort/cruise collections come out. One thing better though then these lightweight, summery collections has to be discovering new labels, designers and other talented individuals in the fashion industries (like the fashion illustrator Caroline Andrieu). Luckily for you and I, one great thing lead to another while viewing resort collections and I stumbled upon the designs of Jay Ahr

At a first glance this collection seems simplistic and minimal but as it is for most things, there is more than meets the eye. This collection is filled with simple yet bold silhouettes, a perfect example of this are the skater styled skirts and flocks. The smooth texture in these with contrast to the textured fabrics in other pieces gives the collection a greater sense of uniqueness and adds an element of interest. Details woven throughout the collection upgrade the otherwise 'common sports gear' to more polished ensembles. For instance, the fraying effect on the track pants achieved with the use of lace. Or the hand-embroidered crystals on the evening gown above and on the more casual pieces, such as the charcoal black bralet layered beneath the sleeveless hoodie (centre image). Reinvention is how I would describe it all. Taking casual sports gear from sweatshirts and muscle t-shirts and giving them a luxe makeover.

I absolutely love the emphasis on letting the clothing take centre stage in these photos. Minimal makeup and 'just got out of bed' hair was the perfect combination for this. Lets not forget about the shoes either; one of summers most popular, the ankle strap sandals, perfectly complements theses looks. I could welcome this collection into my wardrobe any day. Especially since the colour scheme is so close to what I usually go for:  Black, white, silver and grey. Overall, a collection for a woman who doesn't want to sacrifice comfort but also doesn't want to sacrifice looking good.

What are your thoughts on this collections?
